Include a description of the bird, where the photo was taken, and the photographerÂs name, city of residence and contact information (phone and email). For the Birds HTF 2018 photo challenge WEEK 49: The hairy woodpecker is a medium-sized woodpecker with a fairly square head and a long chisel-like bill (nearly the same length as the head). They are black-and-white overall, with a tiny red patch at the rear of the maleÂs head. Females look like males without the red crown patch. Females have a white patch down the back.
