Kevin Rice and Jordan Benz recently dropped off three huge bags of pop tabs at McDonald’s in Virginia. The friends have been collecting pop tabs for several years now, helping to raise money for Ronald McDonald houses.
“This is fantastic,” Brenda Dennis, shift manager of McDonald’s, said of their donation. “This is a great thing to do for Ronald McDonald houses. A Ronald McDonald House is a wonderful place where families can stay at little or no cost while their child is being treated at a hospital nearby.”
“We did it to help people with cancer and other illnesses,” Kevin said about their donation. Although it was a lot of work, Jordan indicated he was proud of what they had accomplished. Jordan had once visited a Ronald McDonald House where relatives were staying while his niece was undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.
Kevin and Jordan were fortunate to have help collecting tabs from their family and friends. Dan Isaacson Jr., a carpet installer at Range Carpet in Virginia, gave them a large bag of pop tabs. Friends and members of the Virginia Northern Club also helped collect tabs for the two friends.
According to the Ronald McDonald House Charities® website, pop tab collection is one of the ways people can raise funds for RMHC®. Once the pop tabs are collected, they are taken to be recycled in exchange for dollars, which help support the families who stay at Ronald McDonald houses.
Both Kevin and Jordan said they liked helping families and children in need. So much so, they will continue collecting pop tabs for the charity. That is, of course, with a little help from their friends and family.
