Every gardener on the Iron Range knows that a killing frost can be expected anytime during the growing season. One way to prevent devastating early losses is to make sure frost protection items are on hand. Clean out that linen closet or visit rummage sales to find needed supplies.
Linens (sheets, tablecloths, lightweight blankets) should be bleachable. These items can be stored in a pillowcase or clear plastic zippered bedding bag. Toss in a few pillowcases for potted plants, and some spring-type clothespins for securing these covers. Store these in the shed/ garage after a good laundering in 10-percent bleach.
