AURORA – Red Top Construction, a family business based in Aurora and owned by Ben and Taylor Dickinson, has grown from a small custom crushing operation started in 2012, to a multifaceted business providing aggregates, trucking and, now, readymixed concrete.

Red Top Ready-Mix was brought to the market after months of meticulous planning, aggregate testing, and consultations with industry experts. By July 2023, the new plant was operational, and the first yards of concrete were successfully poured.

The company has always prioritized delivering superior products and services that meet the unique needs of its clients, whether for residential, commercial, or municipal projects. Ready-mix concrete is no exception, offering customized solutions tailored to specific project requirements, utilizing top-tier admixtures from Master Builders Solutions, ensuring enhanced workability and durability. The company also offers options for fibers and color additives, allowing for a wide range of applications from decorative projects to robust structural work.

New for 2024, is the introduction of a 105-foot conveyor belt truck. The truck is designed to place concrete more efficiently, especially in challenging or hard-to-reach areas. The truck can also be used to place crushed rock as well.

The organizations have also been making large strides in becoming accredited to supply concrete on Minnesota Department of Transportation jobs. In order to perform work on MnDOT projects, the aggregate source must be approved, as well as the plant, and a person must also hold specific certifications. Taylor holds the required certifications and the sand has already received approval, with rock approval expected shortly. After an inspection of the plant, MnDOT work will be possible in the very near future.

The company’s success is rooted in its dedication to quality and customer satisfaction. The Dickinsons truly care about providing quality products within the community they reside in. The companies also employ union team members from the Local 49 Operators Union and the Teamsters Union.

With the expansion into ready-mixed concrete, Red Top Construction is poised to meet the growing demands of the Iron Range and beyond. The Dickinsons’ dedication to their business and community continues to drive their success, making Red Top Construction and Red Top Ready-Mix a trusted partner for construction needs in northern Minnesota.
