Over 100 vendors, exhibitors to gather at Miners Memorial Building

Celebrate spring at the Iron Range Home, Sport & Travel Show

VIRGINIA – Margaret Atwood said, “In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.” Atwood has the right idea. Though snow blankets the ground and ice threatens spills, spring— and all its down-and-dirty projects—is just around the corner. What better way to get a jump on spring this season than loading up the family and heading to the Iron Range Home, Sport and Travel Show.

For nearly 30 years, the Iron Range Home Show has showcased the area’s local businesses. More than 100 vendors and exhibitors will be set up at the Miners Memorial Building in Virginia from March 21 – 24. Vendors cover a wide variety of themes, including travel, home remodeling, home businesses, decorating, landscaping, construction, and home heating. The show will also feature 2019 models of boats, vehicles, and RVs.

The Iron Range Home Show draws attendance from the entire region, with up to 7,000 in attendance in past years. Krissy Warwas is the Iron Range Home, Sport and Travel Show coordinator, and she handles the organization, scheduling, planning, set-up, and vendor and exhibitor assistance. Warwas says she does pretty much whatever needs to be done to make the show run smoothly.

“It is a free event filled with local vendors,” Warwas said, when asked what sets the Iron Range Home Show apart from other home shows in the state. “We have local nonprofits—such as Virginia Elks—collecting non-perishables for the local food shelf, Boy Scouts will be selling sandwiches and cookies for their local troop, we have special entertainment set up for all ages, and so much more.”

In addition to the exhibits by local businesses and organizations, the Iron Range Home Show will also have a few special highlights. These include free mechanical bull rides for all ages provided by Nelly Entertainment, and Amazing Charles will astound visitors with his balloon animals and magic shows.

Minnesota Official Measurers will be back to measure and score antlers. Patrons can visit the MnDNR Turn in Poachers (TIP) Wall of Shame and participate in a free laser shoot.

Ford Motor Company will run a test drive promotion on Saturday, March 23, in front of the Miners that will raise money for the Virginia Athletics Department. There will also be ten $100 vendor cash giveaways throughout the show.

Dates and times of the 2019 Iron Range Home, Sport and Travel Show are: Thursday, March 21, from 4 – 8 p.m.; Friday, March 22, from 12 – 8 p.m.; Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.; and Sunday, March 24, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
