MLK Day march and rally planned in Virginia Jan. 21

VIRGINIA — The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee of Mesabi Range College and the Virginia Human Rights Commission are hosting a Martin Luther King Jr. Day march and rally on Monday, Jan. 21, from 12 – 1:30 p.m. in Virginia.

Participants are asked to gather at the Virginia City Hall west entrance at 12 p.m. From there, they will march to the Virginia High School at 2nd St. S. and 6th Ave. W., where the rally will begin at 12:20 p.m. in the school’s new gym.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Clyde Wilson Pickett, senior diversity officer for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. Other speakers will be Antavius Thomas, diversity officer at Mesabi Range College; Pastor Terry Sonnentag from North Star Church in Virginia; Virginia Mayor Larry Cuffe, Jr.; and Cathy Chavers, chairwoman from the Bois Forte Band of Ojibwe.
