At every Twins game, a veteran is honored before the singing of the National Anthem. The veteran is graciously thanked for their service, receives a rousing ovation and raises the American flag during the Star Spangled Banner with family and friends by their side. Veterans Jerry and Wendy Yourczek of Angora were the veterans selected to be honored at Target Field in Minneapolis on May 18, 2018, when the Minnesota Twins hosted the Milwaukee Brewers.
“Created in 2010 as part of the Inaugural Season at Target Field, the Armed Forces Flag Raising Program has become one of the great traditions of the Minnesota Twins game day experience,” says the Twins website, www.mlb.com/twins. “The program pays tribute to veterans and active-duty military men and women from Twins Territory during the singing of the National Anthem prior to every home game.”
You can nominate a veteran for the program at www.mlb.com/twins/community/ armed-forces-flag-raising-program; however, nominations are now closed for the 2018 season.
