MDC’s Family Discovery Day offers fossil fun event

CHISHOLM – Discover and explore fossil fun at the next Family Discovery Day: FOSSILS! FOSSILS! FOSSILS! will be held on Saturday, March 25, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Minnesota Discovery Center (MDC) in Chisholm.

At the event, discover fossil displays, demonstrations, hands-on activities, themed games, and a meet and greet/ photo opportunity with the Paleo Pals, HAPP the T-Rex and Cera the Triceratops.

(Paleo Pals will be in and out throughout the course of the event.) While you wander and wonder, enter for a chance to win fun paleo prizes and a year of paleontology membership.

Also, learn about MDC paleontology programming, the Hill Annex Paleontology Project, volunteer opportunities at MDC’s fossil excavation site, and meet and mingle with two paleontologists, John Westgaard (Minnesota Discovery Center) and Dr. Alex Hastings (Science Museum of Minnesota).

Guests can enjoy a Cretaceous event menu available for purchase from Dino Dogs (hot dogs) and Raptor Nuggets

(chicken nuggets) served with Fossil Tots (tater tots). Coke products available. There will be free dinosaur sugar cookie while supplies last.

Paleontology fans are also invited to a lecture and Q&A with the Science Museum of Minnesota’s Fitzpatrick Chair of Paleontology, Dr. Alex Hastings, from 5 – 6 p.m. in the MDC Theater.

Learn about Minnesota during the Ice Age and hear more about the Science Museum’s campaign efforts to declare a Minnesota State Fossil. There will also be time for some Q&A, so bring questions.

Minnesota Discovery Center is located at 1005 Discovery Drive in Chisholm. Regular admissions apply for Family Discovery Day and the Science Museum of Minnesota lecture and Q&A. Admission includes museum access.

Attendees are to use the winter museum entrance located in the back parking lot (follow digital navigation signs in the parking lot).

Visitors attending the special guest lecture presented by the Science Museum of Minnesota are encouraged to arrive early and enjoy the pre-lecture displays and activities at no extra cost (just pay admission once). The event will take place on the 2nd level of the museum in the MDC Theater.
