Now that summer is at its peak, it is time to hold fertilizers and weed killers until cooler late fall weather. Use compost or peat moss to smother weeds before they can go to seed. Borders can be edged using a sharp spade. Inspect plants regularly for pests and diseases.
Most flowers benefit with regular cuttings for indoor enjoyment. Tall varieties need to be staked to keep them contained. Remember to keep deadheading the spent blooms. Water outdoor pots and hanging baskets on a daily basis with a weak fertilizer added. Pick young veggies often to keep production up.
