In celebration of 65 years in business, Sammy’s Pizza chose to give back to an organization close to their hearts—the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
A nonprofit charity that provides a lifetime of support for veterans of all generations and their families, the DAV helps more than one million veterans in positive, life-changing ways each year.
As a thank you for all of their sacrifices—as well as their patronage over the years – Sammy’s locations in Cloquet, Duluth, Hermantown, Grand Rapids, Hibbing and International Falls, donated 65 percent of proceeds earned on the final day of their anniversary celebration to local DAV chapters. The money raised totaled $16,964.
“We’re so pleased to have had the opportunity to support such a great organization,” said Mike Acheson, owner of Sammy’s Pizza in Cloquet. “They—along with their families—sacrificed everything for our freedom. Our anniversary donation is a small token of gratitude for all that they’ve done for us.”
Members of the Sammy’s family presented a check to the DAV on Friday, April 26, during the annual DAV state convention at the Holiday Inn & Suites in Downtown Duluth, which included more than 300 delegates from throughout the state.
Today, there are 15 Sammy’s Pizza locations across Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota—all owned and operated by family members and close friends.
PMQ Pizza Magazine has inducted Sammy’s Pizza into its Pizza Hall of Fame as part of its annual tribute to the rich, cultural history of American pizzerias that have been in business for 50 years or longer. For more information about Sammy’s, visit mysammys.com.
