AURORA – Celebrate Aurora and the Aurora Chamber of Commerce are hosting the 29th annual Pumpkin Fest on Saturday, Oct. 13.
A lot has changed in 29 years. Some events such as the Pumpkin Fest dinner are no longer held, while others, such as the cakewalk, have been brought back. Chasica Rasmusson, president of Celebrate Aurora, remembers attending when she was a child. “I enjoyed participating in the cakewalk at the old Moose Club. Kids from all the local communities would convene at the Moose and take their turn walking in a circle to win a prized dessert. I will always have a fondness for carrot cake!”
The event starts Friday evening with a pumpkin baking contest hosted by Vermilion Land Office. Items for judging can be dropped off at the community center from 5- 6 p.m.
Saturday’s festivities start with the Fifth Annual Giant Pumpkin 5k Fun Run/Walk at 9:30 a.m. Registration is $25; day of event registration is $30 and begins at 8 a.m. Wear your costumes to win prizes. Prizes also awarded to top finishers. (No power tools, chainsaws or other similar items allowed on course during the run.)
