CHERRY — Graduates of Cherry High School recently donated over $1,500 to the school to support urgent student needs. The funds were raised at a silent auction during a reunion at Eveleth Veterans Park for the Cherry High School graduating classes of 1970 through 1979.

“We thought if we got a few hundred dollars for the school, that would be great. People were very generous,” said Beth Carpenter ’76.

According to Carpenter and Sally Takala, the reunion attracted over 150 alumni and friends, some of whom came from as far away as California. The auction included a variety of items, including garden compost, California wines, and a travel package. Chuck and Ross Sarkela, Doug and Bob Ellis, and Leon Baasi performed rock and country music.

The core planning committee consisted of Teresa Dall ’70, Sally Takala ’71, Sharon Holcomb ’72, Lynn Hilde ’72, Laurie Oates ’73, Beth Carpenter ’76, Cherie Luukkonen ’76, Ted Takala ’76, and Lora Anderson ’79.

Funds raised at the reunion can be used for winter clothing, personal items, activity fee support, and other purposes for students in need.
