The 2017 eclipse: Who? What? Where? When? and How?

All of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun on Monday, Aug. 21, 2017. Anyone within the path of totality can see one of nature’s most awe-inspiring sights—a total solar eclipse. This path, where the moon will completely cover the sun and the sun’s tenuous atmosphere—the corona—can be seen, will stretch from Lincoln Beach, Oregon to […]

Eclipse—January 24, 1925—was visible on the Iron Range

On January 24, 1925, there was a solar eclipse which was visible on Minnesota’s Iron Range. The centerline of that solar eclipse went right through the city of Virginia. On that Saturday—January 24—my grampa, Fedorico Legueri, and his two oldest sons woke up before sunrise, ate a good breakfast, and using a kerosene lantern for light, walked to the top […]

Following these simple rules, you can safely enjoy the solar eclipse

Looking directly at the sun is unsafe except during the brief total phase of a solar eclipse (“totality”), when the moon entirely blocks the sun’s bright face, which will happen only within the narrow path of totality. The only safe way to look directly at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as “eclipse glasses” […]

Healthy for Life

Taking time for inspiration

Hello one and all! It is still summer but the precious time seems fleeting through our fingertips. I recently picked up one of my father’s books, which was calling out to me. He loved quotes, and the book, Proverbs to Live By: Truths that Live in Words, with woodcuts by Fritz Kredel. It was published in 1968 by Hallmark. When […]
