A stick of dynamite in a small package

PIKE TOWNSHIP – Not meaning to do it on purpose, I’ve gotten a dog that is a clone of my husband. She’s small (he’s short), but thinks she’s big (so does he). She’s relentlessly focused on what she loves, basically tennis balls and sticks (he, whatever the political issue of the week is). When she’s in search of something, there’s […]

Harley: My constant companion

LAKE VERMILION, TOWER – He was found in Britt, hungry and roaming the woods. Was this black lab dropped off on the highway and left to make it on his own or did he run away from abuse? He was particularly fearful of males. After following my daughter and her fiancé around for a day, the dog loaded into the […]

Maggie Mae:

An unexpected relationship becomes permanent

“An Unexpected Relationship Will Become Permanent.” That was the fortune in my fortune cookie on July 9, 2011. Little did I know, but that fortune would come true. It was a Saturday and I was home with my dog Amber while my husband Eric went to Grand Portage, MN to visit his brother and our sister-in-law. Three weeks earlier we […]

RUGER’S STORY

It was a sunny day in May of 2008 when I received a text message while at work that said, “Come home ASAP,” so off I went. When I got home there was my boyfriend in the yard with a dog. We had discussed getting a puppy a while back but not a dog. Well, as it turns out, Ruger […]

A return to your dog’s native diet

Listen up if you’re interested in a rawmeat diet for your canine. Commercial dog foods contain soy, corn, and wheat – all common allergens for dogs. Some people believe that all grains should be eliminated from our dogs’ diets, claiming they cause pancreatic stress and tooth calculus. A dog’s raw food meat diet may include: Eggs (with shell), beef, buffalo, […]

Dachshunds and a dog’s life

How God made dachshunds

God made a little dachsie to brighten up our day. He took a bit of sunshine, laughter, love and play, And rolled it in a sausage shape just right for a hug, With bright eyes full of mischief set in its little mug. With little paws a pattering, to take it here and there, Then He thought, oh, what about […]
