Andrew's Cameras of Virginia, Hometown Focus, and WEVE radio are collaborating on a year-long project, titled “ONE,” featuring 52 photographers, starting this June. Our community (the Iron Range) will be captured through the eyes of some of its most creative residents, using only one camera.

Talented photographers of all ages and experience levels are encouraged to apply. Interested photographers can pick up applications at Andrew's Cameras on Chestnut Street in Virginia.

Once chosen, photographers submit a $40 entrance fee, and are assigned one week from the three listed preferences on their application. Each of the 52 participants is assigned an individual week so that the area is photographed for a full year.

When the photographer's week arrives, he or she is given a 35mm film Canon AE-1 camera with a 50 mm lens and one roll of black and white film. They retain the camera from Tuesday to the following Monday of their designated week for completion of the assignment – capturing their view of the heart of their Iron Range community through a lens.

After the photographer is finished shooting, or when the week is up, they will return the camera equipment and any unprocessed film to Andrew's Cameras, who will then develop and print the photos. The photographer returns later to choose the best image, which will be printed at 8x12 inches, mounted, and framed.

A gallery opening will be held to showcase the 52 photographs with the People's Choice Best of Show and Runners Up prizes. The date of the gallery opening will be announced prior to July 2012.

Photographers retain copyrights of all their images and give Andrew's Cameras and Hometown Focus unlimited usage rights free of charge for display, advertisement, or publication.
