5K to support the Olcott Park fountain planned
VIRGINIA – The Olcott Park Fountain Family 5K Fun Run & Walk will be held Saturday, May 20, in Virginia. The event will help support the Olcott Park fountain restoration efforts. Sponsored by Kunnari’s Kitchen House and 8th Street Barbers, the 5K will loop through Olcott Park, down 9th Avenue to Miners Memorial Building and back.
“We’re excited to add the 5K to our schedule of fundraising events to help us restore the fountain,” said Greg Gilness, fountain committee chair. “The fountain was something many people loved to visit in the park. We’re happy that we are close to our goal of bringing it back to its former glory.”
Registration for the 5K will open Monday, April 24. To register, visit www.igp321.com and click on “Stores,” and select the Fountain 5K store, or visit Ink’d Graphics Plus in Downtown Virginia. Everybody who registers before May 11 will receive a t-shirt. Same day registration will also be open; however, there will not be additional t-shirts available. Cost of the 5K is $20 per person, with proceeds benefiting the Olcott Park Fountain Restoration Project.
On race day, 5K sign in will begin at 8 a.m. at the Olcott Park bandstand with the event beginning at 9 a.m. Refreshments will be provided by Kunnari’s Kitchen after the race in the bandstand area of the park.
The Olcott Park Fountain Restoration Fund is a component fund of the Virginia Community Foundation. All contributions made towards the project are considered a tax deductible donation.
