Lila Irene Lahti
Lila Irene Lahti, 97, of Virginia passed away on Monday, April 18, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital-Hospice Unit in Duluth. Memorial Services will be held on Friday, April 22, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Community United Church of Christ in Biwabik. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Pastor Rod Slessor will officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik. Arrangements are entrusted to Range Funeral Home of Virginia.
She was born in Eveleth on September 8, 1913 to John and Sophie (Lukkonen) Rauma. On July 12, 1945 she was united in marriage, in Biwabik, to Oscar E. Lahti. During WWII, she worked for Lockheed Martin in California as a “Rosie the Riveter”. She was a member of Community United Church of Christ in Biwabik and enjoyed making and serving pasties there. Lila was the co-owner of Lila Mae’s Variety Store in Biwabik. The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Arvold and all the staff at St. Luke’s Hospice Unit, Duluth, for their care and attention to Lila.
Survivor’s include: Son, Robert (Ethel) Lahti of Duluth and daughter, Karen (Thomas) DeTuncq of Ham Lake, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one sister, Leona Kramerich of Gilbert; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Oscar, two sisters and four brothers.
