Dancer, backpacker and world traveler
When the music begins, Erwin Laitala pops to his feet and stands out among acres of music fans. He cannot be mistaken decked out in colorful tie-dyed clothing from head to toe, prompting some to refer to him as “the crazy tie-dyed dancer.” His unique dance style has morphed somewhat over time in response to years of wear on his knee joints. Lyric Center: seeking input for future
The Lyric Center for the Arts held a community meeting on Thursday, August 26 to get input and thoughts on the next steps for reuse of the building at 510 – 514 Chestnut Street in Virginia. Comments ranged from right-sizing the next expansion to moving ahead with full renovation. All of the input was valuable and will be used by the organization for future actions. Full Story
ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS on the iron range
A wave of hatred for illegal immigrants is sweeping across our country. I know all the reasons for this hatred; and I would probably be a part of it were it not for my grandparents.
My grandfather came to this country and the Iron Range from Italy in 1917. It was 25 years before he took night classes and received his citizenship. Full Story
