White Community Hospital a Level IV trauma center
AURORA - White Community Hospital recently received a Level IV trauma designation from the Minnesota Statewide Trauma System of the Minnesota Department of Health.
A trauma designation recognizes a hospital’s resources and capabilities to care for trauma patients. Minnesota began developing a comprehensive statewide trauma system in 2005. The system recognizes the vital role that communities, ambulance services, hospitals and healthcare professionals play in the care and management of trauma patients.
The Level IV designation, which was awarded to White Community Hospital, is given to hospitals that can demonstrate their proficiency in evaluating, stabilizing and diagnosing trauma patients prior to transfer to a larger trauma center. In Minnesota, Level IV centers must also have round-the-clock physician staffing and provide additional trauma training for all Emergency Department staff.
“Our staff works very hard and keeps the patient first in everything that we do. The team is to be commended for their efforts in obtaining the Level IV trauma designation,” says Dr. Michelle Oman, Chief Medical Officer for White Community Hospital.
White Community Hospital is part of SMDC Health System in Duluth.
