BRITT - The annual Sand Lake Shuffle fundraiser for cancer patients and their families will be held August 13-14, begining Friday at 4 p.m. and continuing through Saturday at 8 a.m., at Voyageur's Sand Lake Resort, Britt Bypass, in Britt, MN.

The 13 hour Run/Walk in relay fashion features teams from local businesses, schools, clubs, families and friends, medical facilities and other organizations. All night participants walk, sing, eat and talk around a beautiful one-third mile candlelit path in the northwoods.

On Friday, a Spaghetti Dinner will be served from 4-6 p.m. The Opening Ceremony will be at 7 p.m., Candle Lighting at 9:30 p.m., and Pizza Party at 11 p.m. Breakfast will be served Saturday morning at 8 a.m. A $6 donation is requested for the Spaghetti Dinner. All food is donated by local merchants.

Refreshments and food will be served throughout the event for all team members. Entertainment, music (live music inside Voyageurs) and a DJ outside, and prizes will be provided all night to keep spirits up. Childrens activities are provided on site, as well as ice cream and fireworks.

If you can't make it to the Shuffle, you can still remember someone special with a candle luminary. Luminaries are a very special way of lighting the walking path throughout the night. You can be an active participant by purchasing a luminary for $5, in celebration of someone's life, or in memory of their life. Luminaries can be purchaes in advance from any team member or at Copy Magic in Virginia.

Camping overnight is encouraged and there is plenty of space for tents. Rental cabins are available and RVs are welcome. For info, call Voyageur's Resort at 749- 3057.

Last year, despite the economic problems, the Shuffle raised $48,400 that was disbursed to the CarePartners committee (provides money locally to those stricken with cancer and their families); The Liz Prebich Breast Cancer Center in Virginia; St. Mary's Breast Center, Duluth, and; St. Luke's Whiteside Research, Duluth for cancer research and treatment. The SLS committee tries to be fair and to provide for our local people's needs. All funds raised go to organizations that support North Central St. Louis County cancer patients and their families.

For more information on the Sand Lake Shuffle, call Holly Lundgren, 749-2253, or Joe Matanich, 741 0197.
