Rukavina delegate shares campaign experience
In the aftermath of last weekend’s DFL state convention in Duluth, my mind is still aswirl with the events that transpired to endorse a DFL candidate for the governor of Minnesota. Emotions run the gamut. There is relief that it’s over, and grief that my candidate wasn’t endorsed. There is disappointment over betrayals and broken promises over the course of the campaign. But mostly, and overridingly, there is pride in an Iron Ranger – Tom Rukavina - who epitomizes the DFL values of justice, fairness and compassion for all people. Full Story

EMBARRASS – It all began when Pastor Chuck Barnes bought a horse.
“I discovered that there was this whole sub-culture of people who have horses, who are into tack and horse shows and rodeos and horse trailers, and all that goes with having a horse,” Barnes said. The more Barnes learned about the culture – including officiating at a western-themed outdoors wedding – the more he was intrigued. Full Story
Earth Fest retrospective: Something bigger than we are
There’s a quiet movement afoot on the Iron Range, and it is bigger than we are. For us on the east end of the Range, the movement has catapulted into a new shared arena by the first two Iron Range Earth Fests. Participation in the 2009 event exceeded our wildest expectations. Now the second Iron Range Earth Fest on April 17, far surpassed the first one. Full Story
Virginia Spring Band Concert preview
VIRGINIA - It is time yet again for Virginia’s next run of band performances by students in grades 6-12. The 6th grade and junior high bands’ concert will be on Thursday, May 6, in the Goodman Auditorium at 7 p.m. The senior high bands’ concert will take place on Tuesday, May 4, also at the Goodman Auditorium, at 7 p.m. Full Story
Youth Green Inventors impressive
Fifty one youth participated in the Green Inventors Contest during the 2nd Annual Iron Range Earth Fest. Participants were 4-6 graders from Roosevelt Elementary and Merritt Elementary. The students brainstormed an idea and developed their projects fully in all directions. Full Story

The 20th Annual Ranger Open Golf Tournament

Join us for the Ranger Open 2010 golf event! The Ranger Open will be held Saturday, July 10, 2010, at the Cedar Creek Golf Course in Albertville, MN. Registration is at noon. There is a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start and the golf format is a 4-person scramble. The cost per golfer for this fundraiser is $100 which covers green fees, two carts per team, and a dinner buffet at the clubhouse. Full Story
