PAINTING MADE EASY

PART 1 OF 3
By Eric Bauer, Manager, Sherwin Williams, of Virginia & Bob Surface, Painter, of Virginia

Whether you do-it-yourself or hire a professional, if you've been thinking about painting your home or business, then the steps and considerations that follow will help to guide you.

Painting is one of the most inexpensive changes you can make to the inside or outside of a structure. When done properly, the effects can last for years.

The following is a list of steps to take into consideration and provide an overview for completing the job:

1. Do it yourself or professional
2. What Color?
3. What paint do I use?
4. How much paint will I need?
5. Methods of application.
6. Preparation, preparation, preparation!
7. Controlling spills, drips and or overspray.
8. Clean up
9. Aftercare

Painting is not rocket science! You can do it yourself and achieve an effect that is every bit as good or better than what someone else might do. But, if you think the job is more than you can or want to handle, call a professional. In the following two articles we will go into more detail concerning the nine steps outlined above.
