A free alternative to Microsoft Office

By Sean Rosensteel
HTF Columnist

When getting a new computer, it’s frustrating to get it set up only to realize you don’t have a typing tool on your new piece of machinery. Or, if you do, it’s only a limited 60 day demo of Microsoft Office.

Is spending a few hundred dollars for a typing application necessary? Not when you have access to Open Office. Open office is a volunteer and user supported application that is free to use. It has most of the functions of an Office application with none of the cost. Check it out at www.openoffice.org.

If you have a new computer or a computer in need of an Office application, don’t spend hundreds of dollars unless you absolutely need to. Getting a simple, free solution might be in your best interest!
