Virginia Regional Medical Center’s (VRMC) Diabetes Center received a generous donation from the 2010 Bush Prebeg Memorial Snowmobile Ride. The ride, held on Saturday, February 20, raised a record $42,113 with donations still coming in. This is the most the ride has ever raised and adding this amount to what has been raised in the past; the Bush Run has raised a combined total of $174,172.

A large part of the funds raised comes from the snowmobile and 4-wheeler raffle which raises $24,000. The winner of the Polaris Snowmobile was Ray Butler from Buhl and the 4-wheeler was won by Cheryl Spragg of Virginia. The winners were drawn at the final stop of the ride at BG’s Bar and Grill on February 20.

“The Prebeg siblings started this ride eight years ago in memory of their brother who was an avid snowmobiler and died of diabetes related complications,” stated Kathleen Murray, VRMC Foundation Director. “It is amazing what this family has been able to do on behalf of the VRMC Diabetes Center while providing a great day for hundreds of riders. This year we had more than 200 riders and the weather was fantastic.”

The VRMC Diabetes Center is available to all people with diabetes; Type 1, Type 2, gestational or pre-diabetes. Programs are designed to meet those who are newly diagnosed or those who have had diabetes for many years. It is certified by the American Diabetes Association and is reimbursed by Medicare.
