Ten vie for three Bois Forte seats

The Bois Forte Reservation Tribal Council certified ten candidates to campaign for three seats on the Reservation Tribal Council.

Incumbent Secretary-Treasurer David Morrison, Sr. is being challenged by Public Works Commissioner Marty Connor and former Education Director Joanne Donald.

In the District I race to represent Nett Lake, incumbent Ray Villebrun is running against political newcomers Brandon Benner who works for the Tribe’s Education Division and Robbie Goggleye who is employed by Bois Forte Housing.

The Vermilion Representative has three women running against incumbent Ray Toutloff. Kelly Dunkley, Geraldine Hanks and Pam Hughes are campaigning for District II Representative.

Bois Forte Band members will vote in a March 30 Primary. The top two candidates in each race then faceoff in the June 8 election. If any of the candidates draws more than 51% of the vote in the Primary, they automatically win a four year term on the Reservation Tribal Council and forego the June 8 General Election.
