Young Ray Kirk

Young Ray Kirk, 72, Iron, died Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at his favorite place, the cabin on Rainy Lake.
 
He was born on May 26, 1938, in Ballaton, MN, the son of Lloyd and Doris (Hughes) Kirk. He grew up and attended schools in Minneapolis and Mt. Iron, graduating from Mt Iron High School in 1956. On June 21, 1958, he was united in marriage to Barbara Richards in Virginia.
 
Following graduation, he joined the Marine Corp and served as served as a radio operator and in 1958 he joined the Air Force and served in Vietnam as an Aircraft Electrical Technician. After retiring from the military, he moved back to Mt. Iron and worked for Inland Steel for 10 years, and then for Ferrell Gas as truck driver, and as a school bus driver for Cherry School. 
 
Young coached basketball, baseball, and bowling to numerous area youth, and enjoyed building and flying RC planes, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, visiting family and friends, and spending time at his favorite place, their cabin on Rainy Lake.
 
Grateful for having the privilege of sharing his life are: his wife of 52 years, Barbara of Iron; one daughter, Kathleen (Ron) Hinklin, Virginia; two sons, Michael Kirk, Duluth, and Joseph Kirk, Virginia; five granchildren, Michelle, Mitchell, Melissa, Ben and Sheldon; one great-grandson, Michael; a brother, Terry (LeeAnn) Kirk, Ortonville, MN, and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Barbara would like to acknowledge their lifelong friends, Richard and Loretta Linders.
 
Young is preceded in death by his parents.
 
Visitation will begin on Thursday, August 19th, from 1:00 PM to the 2:00 PM Memorial Service at the Range Funeral Home in Virginia, burial will be in the Eveleth Cemetery the following day.
