William “Bill” Jula

William “Bill” Jula age 86 died on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at St. Raphael’s Health and Rehab Center in Eveleth. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Sunday, June 27th at the Range Funeral Home in Virginia continuing on with the service at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Robert Simensen will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are with the Range Funeral Home in Virginia. 
 
William “Bill” Jula was born on October 31, 1923 to Justin and Mary (Fesnick) Jula in Chisholm.   Bill graduated from Chisholm High School in 1941 and while attending school worked for Fiorio Bakery and Mahne Hardware & Funeral Home. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 22, 1942. During World War II served onboard the USS LST 127 in the South Pacific. Bill held the rating of Yeoman First Class USN and received an Honorable Discharge on March 21, 1948 only to be recalled to active duty during the Korean War in January 1951 holding the rating of Personnel Man First Class USNR being stationed at the Navel Air Technical Training Center, Memphis, TN. and was released to inactive duty in September 1952. Bill married Nola H. Aaland on July 5, 1958 in the Nashwauk Lutheran Church. He retired from United States Steel (MINNTAC) in September 1983 after 35 years service as an IBM and Computer Operator.
 
Bill was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Crellin – Tini Post# 1113 serving as commander from 1998 – 1999 and also 1st Vice Commander, 2nd Vice Commander, and Chaplain, American Legion – Pratt Volden Mickleson Anderson Post # 239  serving as Post Commander from 1998 – 1999, and 2nd Vice Commander and Chaplain, Disabled American Veteran- Chapter 23 Virginia, Virginia Honor Guard, LaSociete Des 40 Hommes et Chevaux – Voiture 634 Virginia and was the past Chef de Care from 1993 to 1998 and again from 2004 to present, National Box Car Association, United States LST Association, Minnesota Chapter LST Association, the Coffee Kluch, Founder and National Secretary of the USS LST 127 Veterans Association, and Civilian Conservation Corps – Northern Minnesota Chapter 119 serving at Company 3702 Luna Lake, Chisholm in 1941. He was also a former member of the Northern Club, Loyal Order of Moose – Lodge # 1117 Virginia, National Ched de Gare Club, and the Chisholm Drum and Bugle Corps from 1950 to 1970. 
 
He is survived by his Wife: Nola (Aaland) Jula – Virginia, MN;Sons: Kenneth (Lyla) Aaland – Elk River, MN, Michael (Brenda) Jula – Parker, CO; Daughter: Renee (Lee) Anderson – Mt. Iron, MN; Grandsons: Keith and Cory Aaland – Elk River, MN and Garrett Jula – Parker, CO; Granddaughters: Jessica Anderson – Mt. Iron, MN, Lindsey Jula – Parker, CO; Brother: James (Gloria) Jula – White Bear Lake, MN; Sister: Ellen Kosiak – Chisholm, MN and 2 Nephews, 2 Nieces, 2 Great Nephews, 5 Great Nieces, and 3 Great-Great Nieces.  
 
Bill was preceded in death by his Father; Justin, Mother; Mary, Brother; Peter, and Sister; Anna Mae Tingstad.
