Violet Mathilda McCaffrey
Violet Mathilda McCaffrey, age 80 of Mt. Iron, MN died Friday, October 29, 2010 in the Virginia Regional Medical Center. She was born November 25, 1929 in Sutton, Nebraska the daughter of Edward and Vero (Lange) Spangler, and was a 1947 graduate of Sutton High School. She met James Riley in Lincoln, NE, they were married in Tekamah, NE in 1950 and they divorced in 1970. Violet’s childhood was spent on the family farm. She worked hard all of her life. Violet was employed as a secretary in the Nebraska State Capitol Building, did family daycare, sold Avon for over 40 years, rented out rooms in her home and worked in the Medical Records Department at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth for 16 years. She lived in Golden Valley prior to moving to Duluth in 1968. She moved to Virginia in 2008. Violet was a wonderful mother who put her children first. While living in Duluth, Violet enjoyed walking on the Lake Walk, playing tennis, going to the fitness center, and ice cream cones at the PortLand Malt Shoppe. She enjoyed polka music, dancing, playing Scrabble, the piano and the accordion. Violet cherished her time spent with her children, and was a deeply kind-hearted person who radiated sweetness and helped everyone she could.
Violet is survived by children: Michele Rolandson (Gary Skerjance) of Virginia, James (Karel) Riley of Austin, TX, David Riley of Coon Rapids, MN, and Daniel Riley of Maple Grove, MN; grandchildren: David Rolandson (Jennifer Hagen) of Renton, WA, and Erin Rolandson (Aaron Raukar) of Bloomington, MN; brothers: Allen Spangler of Sutton, NE, Harlan Spangler of Omaha, NE, and Lawrence (Edith) Spangler of Reisterstown, MA; brother-in-law: Virgil Sewell of Kansas; 1 nephew and 3 nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Robert and Franklin Spangler and Merle Sewell.
A Gathering Time for Family and Friends will be held Friday, November 5, 2010 from 12 Noon until the 1:00 p.m. Memorial Service in the Bauman Cron Funeral Home in Virginia.Memorials are preferred.Family Services provided by Bauman-Cron, A Bauman Family Funeral Home in Virginia.
