Tuovi Elizabeth Santi, 79, of Virginia (formerly of Iron) died Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at St. Michael’s Health and Rehab in center in Virginia. Funeral service will at 2:00 p.m.Sunday, January 30th at the Faith United Lutheran Church in Iron. Visitation will be one hour prior. Pastor Janeva Stromberg will officiate. Burial will be at Forbes Cemetery.
Tuovi was born on May 16, 1931 in Embarrass, MN to Lauri and Laura Teinila. She grew up and attended school at Embarrass. She graduated from Embarrass high School Class of 1949. September 2, 1950 married Arnold W. Santi in Virginia. Following marriage the couple made their home in Iron.She was employed by the ‘Embarrass ‘Coop Assn, the Bray Hospital in Biwabik, and the Virginia Regional Medical center - retiring in 1986.She and her husband were foster parents for 40 children over a thirty year period.She was a ‘charter member of the Foster Parents association and also served as a 4H Key Leader for 13 years.
She is survived by husband, Arnold; 4 sons: William Santi of Deerwood, MN, Glen (Betsy) Santi of Brainerd, MN, Patrick Santi of Chisholm, MN, and Kevin Peterson of Clinton Township, MN; 1 daughter: Debra (Dennis) Frazier of Zim, MN;Four Granddaughters: Alisha (Nick) Zika, Tammy (Nathan) Scheopner, Heidi (Josh) Rogers & Heather Santi; Two Great-grandchildren: Clara & Mark Scheopner; One sister: Mariam (James) Saranpaa of Duluth, MN and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
