Thomas Paul “Tom” Baczewski

Thomas Paul “Tom” Baczewski, age 44 of Mt Iron, died Thursday, June 03, 2010 in his home of a heart attack due to diabetic complications. He was born October 24, 1965 in St. Paul, MN, the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Gieffer) Baczewski. Frank died when Tom was 3 and when his mom remarried; Fred Kuehne became Tom’s Dad. Tom was a graduate of Henry Sibley High School, Class of 1984 and a graduate of Bemidji State University, with a double major in Business and Marketing and a minor in Economics. He married Kim Cavers on May 4, 1991 in Virginia and was a resident of the Virginia area since. He was employed by and then a co-owner of Iron Trail Motors in Virginia until its sale in April of 2005; and was a graduate of the National Auto Dealer’s Business Academy. Tom was active in the Laurentian Chamber of Commerce where he served on the Board of Directors and the Ambassadors, Curl Mesabi, the Virginia Elks Club, Eshquagama Country Club, and United in Christ Lutheran Church in Eveleth. He enjoyed playing softball, fishing, golfing, and woodworking. Tom loved the time spent on Crane Lake, both on the houseboat and at the cabin. He was a “people person” who liked to spend time with family, friends, and his Labrador “Barney”. He will be missed by all who knew him.
 
Tom is survived by his wife: Kim; siblings: Greg of Eagan, Karen (Gary) Pitlick of White Bear Lake, Dave (Deb) of Inver Grove Heights, and Lisa (Bud) Schoenle of Greenfield; sisters-in-law: Pam Cavers of Duluth and Lisa (Kraig) Ketola of New Brighton; in-laws: Bill & Gladys Cavers of Virginia; aunt: Rosemary Fischer of Eagan; nieces and nephews: Missy, Mandy, Kent, Shannon, Kelsey, Amy, Ryan, Victoria, Liz, Karen, and Bill; and a host of friends.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents: Frank Baczewski, Fred Kuehne, and Elizabeth Baczewski Kuehne; mother-in-law: Marie Cavers; and uncles: Gerry & Bob Gieffer.
 
A Gathering Time for Family and Friends will be held Sunday, June 6, 2010 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Bauman Cron Funeral Home Chapel in Virginia. The Gathering Time will continue Monday, June 7, 2010 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Celebration of Life Service in the United in Christ Lutheran Church in Eveleth. Pastor Emily Rova – Hegener will officiate.
 
Memorials are preferred.
