Rose J. Erklouts

Rose J. Erklouts, 91, of Brooklyn Center, MN, and formerly of Eveleth, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Northridge Masonic Care Home in New Hope, MN.
 
She was born on June 23, 1918, in Eveleth to John and Johanna (Zakraisek) Drobnich. Rose graduated from Eveleth High School in 1936, Eveleth Junior College in 1941 and attended the Minneapolis Business School. Following her schooling, she moved to Chicago where she worked for Sears as a merchandise correspondent; moved to San Francisco and worked for Butler Brothers in their export department and in the evenings worked as a receptionist at the University of California. Rose returned to Minnesota and went to work for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad in Minneapolis. Returning to Eveleth, Rose married Victor F. Erklouts on May 1, 1954 at the former Holy Family Catholic Church. Following their marriage, Rose worked for Dr. Kochevar as a typist and on the switchboard for the county welfare department for a number of years and became a homemaker. Rose was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church and while living in Minneapolis was a member of St. Olaf’s Catholic Church. She was a life member of Mesaba Range Post 1172 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Eveleth and had been a member of the Eveleth Skating Club.
 
She is survived by her son, Stephen M. of Brooklyn Center, who would like to thank his mother “for taking such good care of me and making me grow up to be a very independent, responsible, dependable man”; and nephews and nieces. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
 
She was preceded in death by twin sons, John and Joseph in infancy; husband, Victor; brothers, Stanley, John, Joe, Edward and Frank; sister, Mary Petik; her parents and good friends, Rose Nagolski, Josephine Shutte, Elizabeth Moore and Harold Harlowe.
 
Memorial mass will be 12:00 p.m., Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Resurrection Catholic Church, Eveleth with Rev. Fr. Charles Flynn as officiant. Visitation will be one hour before the mass at the church. Inurnment will be in Eveleth Cemetery. Stephen would like to extend a very special thank you to the nursing staff at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN; ICU and hospice care department, Northridge Masonic Care Home Nursing Staff; Gerry Erklouts for spending time and praying with my mother; Wanda Stephenson her caregiver/companion for taking such good care of my mother and giving her Sam the bulldog and to Marilyn Shutte for all the beautiful cards she sent my mother.
