Robert Leigh Branstrom

Robert Leigh Branstrom, age 83, lifelong resident of Virginia died Tuesday, June 15, 2010 in the Virginia Regional Medical Center. He was born March 12, 1927 in Virginia, the son of Ivar and Lillian (Anderson) Branstrom. He graduated from Virginia High School and went on to serve in the Merchant Marine. A veteran of the US Army, Robert later served during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Audrey Tournell on March 26, 1954 in Grand Rapids, MI.
 
Robert worked as an Engineer for DW&P Railway. Following his retirement he worked as a driver for the Ken Waschke Auto Plaza. He was member of the First Covenant Church in Virginia, and served in several capacities there. He enjoyed woodworking, and woodcarving with the group in Cook.
    
Robert is survived by his wife: Audrey; his son: James R. (Vera) Branstrom of Virginia; four grandchildren: Jacqualine Branstrom, Kristina (David) De Joode, Andrew Branstrom and Rachel Branstrom; two step-grandchildren: Adrianna and Mariah; siblings: Dorothy (William) Schuknecht of Virginia, Muriel (Lloyd) Stanawway of Parkville, Joyce (Juan Luis) Gonzalez of Mazatlan, Mexico and Virginia, and John (Elsa) Branstrom of Golden Valley, MN; numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
 
 His parents preceded him in death.
 
A Gathering time for family and friends will begin Tuesday, June 29, 2010 from 10 a.m. until the 11a.m. Memorial Service in the First Covenant Church in Virginia. Rev. Roger Johnson will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date.
 
Memorials are preferred, and may be directed to the First Covenant Church.
