Robert “Bob” Henry Berlin

 

Robert “Bob” Henry Berlin, 81, of Virginia, peacefully passed away Monday, March 22, 2010, at St. Michael’s Health and Rehab Center. Services will be held on Saturday, March 27, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Virginia, with Rev. Fr. John Doyle officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Range Funeral Home of Virginia.

Born on June 3, 1928, to Henry and Bessie (Magill) Berlin, Bob was a lifelong resident of Virginia. He graduated from Virginia High School in 1946 and enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 29. Bob served in the Army, was stationed on Okinawa, and was honorably discharged in 1948. He attended Junior College in Virginia from 1948 to 1950. He went to work for Erie Mining Company and retired from LTV in 1990. In 1958, Bob met Bernice Blanchard and they were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marble on October 24, 1959.
 
An avid hunter and fisherman, Bob enjoyed many trips with his son, Bruce, and also his best friend, Lloyd Lofback. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, boating, camping trips with his family, and watching his grandchildren scamper around. Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Virginia, the Elks of Virginia, the Virginia American Legion Post #239, a life member and past commander of the VFW Post #1113, and a past member of the Serviceman’s Color Guard.
 
Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bernice; daughter, Barbara, Washington, DC; son, Bruce (Michelle), Britt; five grandchildren, Joshua, Samuel, Maria, Theresa, and John Berlin; sister, Carol Leiviska, Lake Leander; nephews, Bob, Jeff, and Mark Leiviska; and other nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law Robert Leiviska; and nephew, Bryan Leiviska.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Sacred Heart Church in Virginia or the Range Veteran’s Memorial are preferred.
