Richard Norman Kohlhase
Richard Norman Kohlhase, age76, longtime resident of Virginia died Saturday, June 05, 2010 in the Virginia Regional Medical Center. He was born November 15, 1933 in International Falls, MN the son of Joyce C. and Sylvia (Hafdahl) Kohlhase. He graduated from International Falls High School, and went on to attend Bemidji State University. A veteran of the US Army, Richard served during the Korean War.
Richard taught in the Cook and Virginia schools, and then went on to become Dean of Instruction and President of Mesabi Community College in Virginia. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Virginia, a former board member of the Virginia Community Foundation, and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf and attending all of the events of his grandchildren,.
Richard is survived by his children: Karen (Joel) Johnson of Champion, MI, Brian (Linda) Kohlhase of Eveleth, MN, John (Lynn) Kohlhase of Virginia, MN, Andrea (Mike) Maki of Virginia, MN, and Karl (Brenna) Kohlhase of Mt. Iron, MN; his brother: Frank (Bea) Kohlhase of Anchorage, AK; his sister: Patricia (Louis) Argir of Bigfork, MN; his special friend: Janet Oberstar; his former wife and friend: Audrey Kohlhase; and 12 grandchildren: Ben, Jessica, Brandon, Katy, Jacob, Sarah, Joshua, Grant, Derek, Kaleb, Isaiah, and Harmony.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Virginia. Reverend Bob Simensen will officiate. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to the Virginia Community Foundation.
