Richard A. Strumbell Sr
Richard A. Strumbell Sr., 73 of Eveleth died Saturday, November 13, 2010 at the Virginia Regional Medical Center.
He was born on March 28, 1937 in Eveleth to Anton J. and Impi M. (Lampinen) Strumbell. Richard was united in marriage to Rosemary Staudahar, his wife of 54 years, on November 24, 1956 in Virginia. He worked for Kangas-Jacobson Dairy, Bridgeman’s, Franklin Creamery and Taystee Bread. Richard then went to work as a janitor in the maintenance department at Mesaba Community College and Eveleth Vocational Technical School, retiring in 2002. He enjoyed fishing and snowmobiling with his brothers, bowling with his wife and feeding the deer, birds and squirrels. He also planted flowers and took great care of his lawn. Richard loved to work on small engines and was a Mr. Fix It. He could repair anything and never turned down a challenge to fix something. He loved dogs and spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren. Richard and his wife attended all of their grandchildren’s activities and sporting events and were their biggest fans. He was a member of the South Fayal Civic Club and the Eveleth National Guard.
He is survived by his wife Rosemary who was the love of his life and their children, Richard A. (Judy) Strumbell Jr. of Eveleth, Robert M. (Leona) Strumbell of Cloquet, Renee’ M. (Dale) Baumchen of Virginia; grandchildren, Ashley Olson (Eric Ranua), Jada Strumbell (Tommy Grabanski), Andrea Olson (Jeremiah Ersbo), Luke Strumbell and Zack Strumbell; great grandchildren, Danika, Morgan, Aylee and Ellie Jo; brother, LeRoy (Donna) Strumbell of Virginia, sisters, Marcia (Val) Bazzani and Susan Strumbell both of Eveleth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Patrick and son-in-law, Bobby Olson.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday in Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home in Eveleth. Visitation will be one hour before at the chapel. Pastor Emily Rova-Hegener will officiate. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Eveleth Cemetery. The family prefers memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the charity of choice.
