Marcella “Marcy” Vandervort

Marcella “Marcy” Vandervort, age 85 of Virginia passed away, with her family by her side, on Friday, October 22, 2010 in St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth.
 
She was born March 14, 1925 in Staples, MN the daughter of Edward and Sadie (Skjervem) Minette. Marcy attended Fertile High School and married Morris Vandervort on May 30, 1942 in Crookston, MN. They made their home in Crookston, Ada, Embarrass, Babbitt, and Pike-Sandy Township. Following Morris’ death in 1995 Marcy moved to Virginia. Marcy worked at the Cluett-Peabody Arrow Shirt Factory for 15 years, for Stevenson’s Women’s Apparel for 15 years, and Parkview Learning Center. She was a former 25-year member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, and a current member of Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church in Virginia. She enjoyed playing cards and her card-playing friends were very important to her. Marcy loved sewing clothes and quilting for her grandchildren and cherished the time she spent with them.
 
Marcy is survived by her children: Jerry (Jackie) Vandervort of Virginia, Sharon (Clyde) Nelson of Babbitt, Richard (Sheila) Vandervort of Virginia, Shirley Bates of Hudson, FL, Lyle (Margie) Vandervort of Virginia, Joy (Jerry) Geller of Cass Lake, and Cindy (Tom) Lee of Virginia; 17 grandchildren: Jeffery Vandervort, Melissa Vandervort, Christina (Ryan) Salo, Matthew (Lisa) Vandervort, Kelly (Tom) Sainio, Brenda (Chip) Scott, Sherry (Bruce Weaver, Amanda (Mitch) Brunfelt, Cory (Nikki) Vandervort, Shelby (Brandon) Bollig, Brandon (Heather) Vandervort, Jesse Vandervort, Tara (Josh) Hornick, Chad Geller, Brandon Lee, Dayis (Steve) Amundson, and Brittany Lee; 28 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; sister-in-law: Esther Vandervort of Crookston, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Morris, sisters: Evelyn Taylor and Lucille Olson; a son-in-law: Vern Bates; and three brothers-in-law.
 
Visitation will be held Monday, October 25, 2010 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Bauman Cron Funeral Home in Virginia. Visitation will continue Tuesday October 26th from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service in Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church in Virginia. Pastor Nathan Sager will officiate. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
 
Memorials are preferred.
