John Prine Hancock

John Prine Hancock, age 90, of Forbes died Wednesday, May 19, 2010 in his home with family at his side. He was born September 6, 1919 in Evans, IA the son of Frank Dean and Ethel Mae (Agee) Hancock. He attended school in Zim. He was united in marriage to June Mathea Nelson on September 6, 1941 in Zim. A veteran of WWII, John served in the Army Air Force in Galena, AK – rising to the rank of Staff Sgt..   John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved God and his country.
           
John worked as a Structural Iron Worker on many construction projects; he retired in 1983. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the 55+ club in Zim. John served meals on wheels, and was a long time McDavitt Twp. Board Supervisor. He enjoyed fishing and camping. He loved working in the woods and cutting his own firewood.
 
John is survived by his wife, June; six children: John (Susan) Hancock of Virginia, Janet (James) Churchtown of West Jordan, UT, James (Debbie) Hancock of Lakeland, MN, Jerry (Suzanne) Hancock of Midway, MN, Jay (Harriet) Hancock of Faribault, MN, and Jeff (Anna) Hancock of Gilbert, AZ; a brother: Jim (Ann) Hancock of Rexberg, ID; 31 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
 
John was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters: Judy Koski and Jean Chiocca; a brother: Frank Hancock; and a granddaughter: Lynn Koski.
 
Visitation will be from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm Friday, May 21, 2010 and will continue from 12:00 noon until the 1:00 pm service Saturday, May 22, 2010 all in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in Virginia. President Wendell Smith will conduct and preside. Interment will follow in the Forbes Cemetery.  Bishop John Given will officiate. Military Honors will be accorded by the Virginia Servicemen’s Honor Guard.
