John J. Russ
John J. Russ, 91, of Eveleth died Saturday, July 3, 2010 at St. Raphael’s Health & Rehabilitation Center in Eveleth.
He was born on July 28, 1918 in Eveleth to Anton and Frances (Janezich) Russ. John graduated from Eveleth High School in 1936 and was a United States Navy veteran. He was married to Angeline “Gale” Mistek on September 2, 1940 in Eveleth. John worked as a foreman for U. S. Steel and was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, Mesaba Range Post 1172 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Frank A. Mancina Council #2583 Knights of Columbus all of Eveleth.
He is survived by his son, James Russ of Superior, Wisconsin; two grandchildren, Amy (Chad) Halvorson of Big Sky, Montana and Paul (Lisa) Russ of Superior, Wisconsin; two great grandchildren, Ty and Darby; a brother, William Russ of Eveleth; a sister, Angeline Strlekar of Virginia and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gale in 1984; daughter-in-law, Marsha in 2009; brothers, Anthony and Edward and a sister, Frances Peterson.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday in Resurrection Catholic Church, Eveleth. Fr. Charles Flynn will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church. Inurnment will be in Eveleth Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by Mesaba Range Post 1172 VFW of Eveleth. Arrangements are entrusted to Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home, Eveleth.
