Janice Lorraine Pappone

Janice Lorraine Pappone, 85 of Virginia died peacefully on Friday, April 2, 2010 at the Lenci House, a Spectrum Health Services Home in Virginia.

She was born on September 18, 1924 in Spina, MN to Emil and Aina Jarvi. She grew up in Kinney, MN and graduated from Martin Hughes High School in Buhl in 1942. On July 25, 1944 she married Leonard Pappone as he was still serving in the U.S. Navy, they enjoyed the opportunity of living in different communities on the east coast, before settling back home in Virginia, MN.
 
Along with raising a family of five daughters, Janice also worked as a receptionist at the Virginia Municipal Hospital. She was an excellent cook and her family looked forward to her potica and raviolis every Christmas. Fishing at the family cabin on Lake Vermillion was a passion that provided her many years of enjoyment. Her other interests include wild berry-picking, bocce ball and especially music and dancing. She was a member of the Holy Spirit Church in Virginia.
 
Janice is survived by her daughters: Darlene (Dave) Karakas of Virginia, MN, Andrea (Bob) Champa of Cook, MN, Lee (Kathy Bussio) of Barnum, MN, Diane (Ron Montano) of Tehachapi of CA; Grandchildren: Steve (Tami) Karakas of Blaine, MN, Jamie (David) Ford of Gilbert, MN, Mathew (Mimi) Champa of Fort Collins, Co, Benjamin Champa of Mt. Iron, MN, Reed Zamlen of Pasadena CA, Riah (Nick) Palmer of Bakersfield, CA; Great-grandchildren: Ryan Tuuri, Lucy and John Champa, and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard in 1985; her daughter, Bernadette Pappone on March 19, 2010; her brother, Nonte Jarvi; and sisters, Mayme Talvitie, Effie Black, and Vivian Fabish.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 9, 2010 at the Range Funeral Home of Virginia. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery.
 
Janice’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Lenci House for their caring support while Janice was a resident at their home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
