James W. “Jim” Larson Sr.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 8, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chisholm, with Rev. Fr. Fred Method celebrating.  A Memorial Gathering will be held from 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service Chapel, and continue for one hour prior to the mass at the church on Friday. Inurnment will follow in Chisholm Cemetery.   Arrangements are entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Chisholm.
 
James W. “Jim” Larson, Sr., age 83, of Balkan, died Friday,October 1, 2010 at his residence in Balkan.  He was born February 24, 1927 in Chisholm to John H. and Elizabeth (Borgert) Larson.  He was a 1945 graduate of Chisholm High School and had been a lifelong Chisholm and Balkan resident.  He was an Army Veteran of WW II. 
 
Jim was united in marriage on September 22, 1951 in Chisholm to Joan P. Fesnick.  He retired in 1978 as a plant operator for LTV Mines after 23 years of service.  He was also a lifetime farmer in Balkan.  He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Chisholm and the Balkan United Units.  Jim served as a constable and assessor for Balkan Township for many years.  He loved to attend farm auctions and was an avid tractor collector.
 
Survivors include his wife of 59 years – Joan P.; children – James “Bill” of Balkan and Patti Larson of Balkan; grandchildren – Rikki Popsun, Fred DuChamp, Tiffany and Mathew Larson; 8  great grandchildren; sister – Betty Fiorini of Dewey Lake; numerous nephews and nieces.  He was preceded in death by his parents, son – Randy on April 17, 2001, granddaughter – Tawnya, grandson – Thomas DuChamp and by 2 brothers and 7 sisters.
