James J. Thomas
James J. Thomas, 68, of Eveleth died Friday, July 30, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Superior, Wisconsin.
He was born on November 23, 1941 in Virginia, Minnesota to Joseph E. and Margaret L. (Begich) Tomatz. Jim graduated from Eveleth High School, Eveleth Junior College and received his Masters in History from Bemidji State University. He was currently working as a control room operator for Mittal Steel in Virginia. Jim enjoyed trap shooting and was a member of clubs in Virginia and Grand Rapids.
He is survived by a brother, Jack (Renee) Tomatz of Hibbing; two nieces, Dawn (Zak) Spaniol of Rochester and Holly (Mark) Hyatt of Hibbing; great nephews, Zane, Talan and Cy Spaniol and great niece, Cecelia Hyatt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Albert Petrich and an infant sister.
A gathering for family and friends will be held from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m., Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home Chapel in Eveleth. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 3:00 p.m., with certified celebrant Susan Tuomela officiating. Inurnment will be in Eveleth Cemetery.
