Irma Irene Peterson

Irma Irene Peterson died Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at the Littlefork Medical Care Center at the age of 94. She was born in Cloquet MN on September 7, 1916, the daughter of Aino and Isaac Kangas. After graduating from Cloquet High School, she moved to Duluth where she graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing; and also attended UMD. In 1940 she married Marvin Larson who died in 1959. She was employed at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth until she retired from active nursing in 1978. She married Harry Peterson in 1963. Upon their retirement in 1980 they moved to their home at Eagles Nest Lake near Ely where Irma resided until she moved into Ely in 1998.
 
Irma enlisted in the Army Corps of Nurses on April 24, 1943 and served as a Red Cross nurse. She was active in the Order of Eastern Star and served as a Grand officer and Guardian of Jobs' Daughters, Glen Avon Chapter. She was a member of Littlefork Lutheran Church, St. Luke’s Alumni Association, Salolamppi Foundation of Concordia College, Eagles Nest Lake Association and Seniors, and the Ely Garden Club. In 2003 she was recognized as an Outstanding Senior Volunteer for Northern St. Louis County.
 
Irma is survived by a son, David Larson and daughter, Julie (Leslie) Lepisto, all of Big Falls, and daughter Karen (John) Reichensperger of Ely, MN; brother Gary (Marjorie) Kangas of Madison,WI; four grandchildren, Andrea Dare of San Ramon, CA, Cameron Lepisto of St. Paul, Carena Burtzel of Omaha, and Lisa Jayne DellaRatta of Havelock NC, their spouses, four great-grandchildren, niece and nephews.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, sister Irja Hanson, and grandson Casey Albin Larson. 
 
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 13,2010 at Littlefork Lutheran Church. There will be no visitation. Burial will be at a later date at the Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery in Esko MN. Memorials to are preferred and may be directed to the Littlefork Lutheran Church. Family services provided by Bauman-Vermilion, A Bauman Family Funeral Home in Tower.
