Harriet A. Thomas
Harriet A. Thomas, 70, Virginia, died at her residence on Tuesday, September 28, 2010. Visitation will begin on Monday, October 4, 2010, from 10:00 AM to the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service at United Methodist Church, Virginia with Pastor Brenda King officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Harriet was born in Virginia, MN, on November 9, 1939, the daughter of Arthur and Margaret (Alcott) Thomas. She grew up and attended schools in Virginia, and graduated from Virginia High School.
She went on to receive her Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Services from the University of MN – Duluth, and also later received her Master’s Degree.
Harriet worked for many years as a Social Worker for St. Louis County, and an Administrator in Social Services at VCC and VRMC. She made her career into a labor of love, helping to benefit many communities and people in our area.
She was very active at VRMC, and a member of the Virginia Women’s Curling Club. Harriet enjoyed rosemaling, fishing, boating, and spending time with her family and friends at her cabin on Lake Kabetogama. She was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, and caregiver. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Harriet is survived by: A daughter, Lisa Thomas, Virginia; Two sisters, Joan Gustason, Virginia and Debbie (Larry) Perslin, Virginia; her nieces and nephews; Michael Walimaa, Los Angeles, CA, Mary (William) Bird, Virginia, Brian (Joanne) Walimaa, Bradenton, FL, James (Holly) Perslin, Hoyt Lakes and other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a niece, Loralyn Thomas Perslin.
