George B. Ewens, MD.
George B. Ewens, MD, age 85, lifetime resident of Virginia died Friday, January 14, 2011 in St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth. He was born March 28, 1925 in Eveleth the son of Dr. Harry and Marguerite (Simpson) Ewens. He graduated from Roosevelt High School and went on to attend Virginia Jr. College, the University of Arizona, and the University of Minnesota where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, George served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. George was united in marriage to Carol Sanzenbach on September 15, 1951 in Minneapolis.
Dr. George was a respected Dermatologist working at the East Range Clinic for his entire medical career. He was a member of Hope Community Presbyterian Church, Eshquaguma Country Club, the American Legion and Masonic Lodge in Virginia, and was past Minnesota president of the American Academy of Dermatology. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, spending winters in Hawaii and Florida, and summers at the cabin. He especially enjoyed spending time with family.
Dr. George is survived by his wife: Carol; three sons: Thomas (Mary) of Blaine, MN, David (Sandy) of Grand Rapids, MN, and John Ewens of Biwabik, MN; a daughter: Georgia (Dwight) Day of Eveleth; two brothers: William (Kathryn) of Eveleth, and Donald (Kathryn) Ewens of Stillwater, MN; five grandchildren: Megan, Katherine, Stephen, Jonathan, and Lauren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother: Richard.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. Funeral Service Tuesday, January 18, 2011 in the Hope Community Presbyterian Church in Virginia. Pastor Nathan Williams will officiate. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Virginia. Family services are provided by Bauman-Cron, a Bauman Family Funeral Home, in Virginia.
