Gene Lofquist, Jr.
Gene Lofquist, Jr. Age 63, of Tower, died peacefully at his home on Monday, September 27, 2010.
Norman Eugene “Gene” Lofquist, Jr. was born on September 27, 1947, in Kingman, AZ, the son of Norman, Sr. and Arlene (Kippen) Lofquist.
He grew up and attended schools in St. Paul and Virginia, MN. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp and served two tours as a Lieutenant in Vietnam.
Gene enjoyed traveling, working on computers, snowmobiling, feeding the deer, and collecting sports memorabilia. He also enjoyed going on cruises and trains, and attending and watching NHRA Drag racing.
He is survived by Kathleen Dethloff, Tower; one son, Tom (DeAnna) Lofquist, and a daughter, Tricia (Vic) Nava, and their mother, Kathy Lofquist, all of Fountain Valley, CA; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Brandon, Mackey, Merrick, Maverick; two step-children, Tamberly (Mark) Eck, and J.R. (Amanda) Mellesmoen; two step-grandchildren, Curtis, and Kassandra. Also surviving are two sisters: Linda (Paul) Link, and Sharon (Jim) Beckwith, all of St. Paul; two brothers, John Lofquist of St. Paul, and Jim (Nancy) Lofquist, Wisconsin; Von (Dick) Hagen, Billy (Sue) Dethloff, and Jim Dethloff; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Jennifer; Bill and Alyce Dethloff, and his two dogs, Hobie and Missy.
A Military burial will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery on Friday, October 8, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. and there will be a Memorial Gathering at his residence on Saturday, October, 16th at 4:00 p.m. Range Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
