Ernest William Holmes
Ernest William Holmes, 64 of, Buhl, died Monday, October 18, 2010 at his residence. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with a Memorial Mass at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Monday, October 25, 2010 with Fr. John O’Donnell as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Veteran’s Section of Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are with Range Funeral Home of Virginia.
Ernest was born June 13, 1946, in Virginia, the son of Clarence Nielo and Katherine Esther (Petrini) Holmes. He grew up and attended schools in Parkville and Mt. Iron, graduating from Mt. Iron High School in 1964.
After his graduation, Ernest served as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps. during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in 1968, and was awarded the Purple Heart and numerous other medals and citations. He was a member of the Mt. Iron American Legion Yoki-Bergman Post #220.
On December 14, 1968, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Jeanne Santa.
Ernest was employed by U.S. Steel in Mt. Iron as a Millwright from 1968 to 1997. Currently employed by Holmes Recycling in Iron, MN.
He was a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather, father-in-law, son-in-law, and brother. He spent many years with horses, and enjoyed hunting and fishing, and making new friends throughout his many adventures.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Holmes, Britt, MN; Son: Michael (Kristin) Holmes of Mt. Iron, MN; Daughter; Gina (Scott) Johnson, Mt. Iron; Four grandchildren; Chanelle and Joseph Holmes and Xavier and Avalon Johnson; His Mother, Katherine Anderson, Virginia; a brother, James (Wanda Palo) Holmes of Buhl, MN; a sister, Betty Bourque, Superior, WI; numerous, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ernest is preceded in death by his father, Clarence Holmes, an infant sister, and a brother-in-law, Briand Bourque.
