Elma Pesonen
Elma Pesonen, 97, of Virginia passed away Friday, December 3, 2010 at St. Michael’s Health and Rehab Center in Virginia. Service will be Tuesday, December 7th at 1:00 PM at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Palo. Visitation will be one hour prior. Pastor Amy Eisenman will officiate. Burial will be in Rauha Cemetery in Palo.
Elma was born on August 9, 1913 to William and Lusiina (Passoja) Aho in Kalvia, Finland. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1917 from Finland. She attended school in Markham. In her younger years, she worked in Finnish boarding homes in Eveleth. After marriage, she was a housewife and a homemaker. She married her first husband Laurie Norman on April 11, 1934 in Virginia. He died on September 20, 1971. She married Eino Pesonen on May 5, 1979 in Palo. He died on July 19, 1993. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her special nieces and nephews:Bill Aho of Eveleth, MN,Joyce Aho of Chanhassen, MN, Judith Aho of Virginia, MN,Jeanette (Larry) Mismash of Gilbert, MN, Gary Aho of Markham, MN; Stepsons: Dr. Ralph (Judy) Pesonen of Austin, MN, Dr. Clifford Pesonen of Mission Viejo, CA; Sister: Edna Johnson of Virginia, MN and numerous other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Laurie Norman, September 20, 1971 and Eino Pesonen, July 19, 1993, sisters; Helen Schoultz and Elsie Anttila, brothers; Tauno Aho and Toivo Aho.
