Edmund Edwin Niemi

Edmund Edwin Niemi, 82, Virginia, died Thursday, January 27, 2011 at his home following a lengthy illness. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at Range Funeral Home, Virginia, from 10:00 a.m.to the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service, with Pastor Nathan Sager officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
 
Edmund was born on January 14, 1929, in Florenton, MN, the son of Sulo and Dagmar (Hutala) Niemi. After graduating from high school, he was employed as a dispatcher for Northern Electric, which later became Lake Country Power, retiring in 1994 after 45 years of service.
 
On October 29, 1955, he was united to Helen Kokko in Gilbert, MN. Edmund was an avid auto enthusiast and was a member of the East Range Vintage Auto Club. He was also a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church and the Local Electrical Union #294.
 
Edmund is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen of Virginia; a daughter, Diane Niemi, Minneapolis; a brother, Arnie (Judy) Niemi, Virginia; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents; a son Dale Niemi; and two sisters, Eileen Payne and Edith Hietala.
