Earl Arden Holmes
Earl Arden Holmes, 80, of Idington, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2010 at his home while napping in his favorite chair. Arrangements have been entrusted by Range Funeral Home of Virginia.
He was born on August 22, 1930 in Cle Elum, WA to Nestor and Lilyan Holmes.Arden resided in Idington area for 79 years.He worked most of his career for DW&P Railroad as a pipefitter, welder and mechanic, retiring in 1987.
He enjoyed his 23 years of retirement traveling, hunting, fishing, cutting firewood and helping friends and family. His favorite place was his hunting shack where he had many happy times.Arden liked red Ford trucks, black dogs and Farmall Tractors.Arden was a living definition of a good man, who will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his five children: Mike (Sheri) of Idington, Sharon of Idington,Jonathan of Idington,Chris (Joyce) of Idington andRachel of Minnetonka. He was especially proud of his eight grandchildren: Jason (Sarah), Jenny, Matt, Nate, Ben, Sam, Seth, and Simon and his Great-grandson: Max.He had many close relatives and friends including his sister-in-law, Henrietta; cousin: Jeannie; friends: Norma and Leonard Ojala, Dave Mavec, and many others. His two dogs, Icaris and Kimber were his pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother; Reuben, and his wife, Gladys.
At Arden’s request, there will be no funeral service. A memorial gathering will be planned at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to Arden’s Favorite Charity: Contented Critters,4986 Town line Rd, Makinen, MN 55763.
