Diane Kay Russ
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 8, 2010 Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service Chapel in Chisholm with Rev. Greg Turner officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. A gathering will take place following the service at the NHS Northstar Specialized Services office at 227 West Lake Street in Chisholm. A private inurnment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Buhl.
Diane Kay Russ, age 58, died on Monday, November 29, 2010 at Fairview University Medical Center – Mesabi in Hibbing. She was born October 7, 1952 to John and Ethel (Lampsa) Russ in Virginia. She attended school in Mt. Iron. Diane went on to reside at Cambridge and Brainerd State Hospitals until returning to the Iron Range where she resided at Hearthside Homes in Tower, Lutheran Social Services in Virginia, and various homes operated by NHS Northstar Specialized Services of Chisholm.
After returning to the Virginia area in 1973, Diane attended the East Range DAC where she was involved in a variety of work and activity projects while maintaining an active social life. Upon getting through her seemingly “tough shell”, those around her found Diane to be fun-loving and having had a great sense of humor. She had a tender heart and seemed to grow on others while putting a smile on someone’s face each day. She enjoyed a good laugh, singing, dancing and especially teasing with others. Diane seemed to get the most out of every day and was cherished and cared for by too many people to mention here.
Her favorite season was Halloween and she loved collecting and displaying her many decorations. If she had her way, Halloween and her October birthday would have lasted the whole year. Diane was always up for carnival thrill rides.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents and her special friend Clifford Forst. She will be fondly remembered where she lived and worked by her caregivers, friends and extended families, known to her as “my people”. A special thanks to the staff at Fairview health care systems for the care that was provided to her.
